The Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth announces its 2009 Lenten Series -Manifesting the Baptismal Covenant
Lent begins on February 25 - Ash Wednesday. This year the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth’s Lenten series focuses on the Baptismal Covenant.
Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body the Church. Episcopalians believe the bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble. In the Baptismal Covenant we publicly avow our belief in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and make a series of promises of how we will, with God’s help, strive to live as Christians. Episcopalians renew their Baptismal Covenant at every Baptism and several other times during the liturgical year.
Each Saturday evening in Lent, one of a number of local and national speakers, including the Rt. Rev. Jane Dixon, retired suffragan bishop of Washington, the Rev. Terry Martin, program officer for Evangelism for the Episcopal Church, and Dr. Toni Craven and the Rev. Dr. Eilene Thelig of Brite Divinity School, will address one part of the Baptismal Covenant. The series will conclude with Bonnie Anderson, president of the House of Deputies of the Episcopal Church, speaking on Sleeping Giant, Come Forth! The Role of the Laity in Episcopal Polity.

Katie,
I'm so sorry that you were away last week when I was there--I looked forward to meeting you. The Fort Worth Episcopalians are wonderful--great energy, great hopefulness. I loved being with your friends and coworkers. Many, many blessings.
You weren't HALF as disappointed as I was. We had that vacation scheduled for months, but the timing turned out to be unfortunate -- although it was great to get the rest. And I finished reading your book, so at least I got to vicariously enjoy you! I've heard rave reviews of your presentation.
Welcome home, Katie!
The Diana Butler Bass event was amazing. She was amazing. I can't remember the last time it felt so good to be an Episcopalian (well, with the possible exception of the previous weekend.)
How refreshing to think that, with the Butler Bass event and now with the Lenten series, we're actually part of a diocese with an honest-to-goodness intellectual life.
The verification word is "couged"
WoooHooo, the Episcopal Diocese of Ft. Worth has some awesome events planned. I had decided to emphasize out baptismal covenant this Lent in my little Lutheran congregation. I wish I could be a fly on the wall at all your wonderful programs.
I am still so hyped after being with you all in early Feb. It is so wonderful to find a welcoming place when I am "home." I hope that it will be "home" soon.
