The important thing to note is that the SBC is dropping in numbers because of their Puritanical definition of religion is no longer cohesive with our society. American culture, even in the South, ascribes not to archaic translations (which are often lost amongst the testerone driven excuses for Biblical interpretation) but to reason and experience: how one can relate to the story. By doing so, it allows one to achieve growth in his/her own spirituality as well as attain a personal theology.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07346054053029196178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25082628.post-14660766505266038882009-07-24T10:24:18.881-05:002009-07-24T10:24:18.881-05:00Just heard on NPR Morning Edition, Pres. Here's the link to NPR's report:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106932178

No wonder this news isn't being picked up. :) The Age, and the London periodical didn't make themselves very clear.Pat Klemmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03206542501782835734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25082628.post-47723226284567210272009-07-23T20:57:00.141-05:002009-07-23T20:57:00.141-05:00I left the SBC at the young age of 14 for the shee...I left the SBC at the young age of 14 for the sheer fact that I needed something more. I was tired of asking questions and being told that I "shouldn't ask but believe." Questioning the Bible (or the pastor for that fact) equated with lack of faith. Entering into the Episcopal Church one year later (and what attracted me to TEC) was the fact that I could question and also reason out belief for myself. I was no longer just a number in a pew. Even as a youth entering the Episcopal Church, the people cared what I thought and what I had to say. And still do.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07346054053029196178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25082628.post-39476173684247861902009-07-21T19:04:42.107-05:002009-07-21T19:04:42.107-05:00Brava! I know that leaving the church he has loved all these years but I understand that in order to maintain his faith-fed integrity he must. I will keep him in my prayers as I do you and Gayland.Muthah+https://www.blogger.com/profile/10589837671378205837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25082628.post-7773846184945837902009-07-21T12:44:29.853-05:002009-07-21T12:44:29.853-05:00Amen!

The Episcopal Church is richly blessed to have your thoughtful and articulate voice in our midst.

I flew from Phoenix on impulse to attend the Integrity Eucharist. It was a chunky expense, but I will always be glad and thankful that I caved in to the impulse. It was an intensely spiritual experience to come to the Eucharist table with my Integrity and allied brothers and sisters in Christ! I was able to meet some of my Integrity and TEC heroes. Maybe next time, I'll be able to meet you, too.

God's peace,Pat Klemmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03206542501782835734noreply@blogger.com
