Once when I wrote catalog copy for Tandy (awful job in my salad days) a woman said her daughter had said to their dog, "If you don't stop eating so much you'll die and you can't go to Heaven." I reacted with, "What an awful thing for a child to say to a dog." The woman, wife of a Baptist seminary student, said, "Judy, you know dogs don't have a soul and they can't go to Heaven." I replied, "They can to my Heaven." That incident has stuck with me all these years.
